Fellows Welcomed to Curtin Campus
The National Centre for Student Equity in Higher Education (NCSEHE) welcomed the successful recipients of two Fellowship Programs – the First Nations Fellowship Program and the Equity Fellowship Program – to Curtin University’s Bentley Campus this week.
The First Nations Fellowship Program seeks to strengthen the quality, capability, scale, and capacity of Australia’s First Nations researchers and practitioners, enable ground-breaking, robust, high-quality, and internationally competitive research, and demonstrate leadership in translating high-quality contributions by Australia’s First Nations researchers. This is a new program offered by NCSEHE for the first time in 2024.
The inaugural First Nations Fellowships were awarded to Dr Tracy Woodroffe at Charles Darwin University, Dr Darren Garvey at The University of Queensland, and Professor Peter Anderson at Griffith University.
In addition, NCSEHE has been running an Equity Fellowship Program since 2015 that has produced strategic, high-impact, high-profile research, policy, and practice work focused on making it better for students from disadvantaged backgrounds to access, participate in, and succeed at university.
In 2024, the Equity Fellowships were awarded to Associate Professor Amani Bell at The University of Sydney, Ms Danielle Keenan at the University of Technology Sydney, and Dr Bret Stephenson at La Trobe University.
The six Fellows were welcomed to Perth/Boorloo this week by NCSEHE’s Director of Research and Policy, Professor Ian Li who is overseeing the Fellowships. Their visit gave them the opportunity to present their research projects to each other, the wider NCSEHE team and other Curtin staff working in related fields. Their visit also afforded the opportunity for the Fellows to be teamed up with previous Fellows for mentoring, receive training from Curtin’s Media Team, and build supportive networks for their work.
The Fellowships form part of NCSEHE’s commitment to fostering excellence and inclusivity in higher education and providing opportunities that empower individuals to make meaningful contributions to their chosen field.
