ADCET Webinar: Making maths/STEM digital and accessible with EquatIO

This webinar will focus on how EquatIO can provide students and staff a truly digital mathematics alternative. EquatIO supports the creating and consuming of complex mathematics by providing alternative input methods for all.
EquatIO provides access to the reading and writing of mathematics notation digitally with access to text to speech. Participants will have an increased understanding of supporting all people to create and consume digital mathematics and STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) in line with their own personal learning needs. Access to EquatIO, the Texthelp tool designed around the well evidenced principles of Universal Design for Learning (UDL), will be made available to all participants.
A bonus feature of EquatIO to support the conversion of mathematics and science notes and textbooks into digital formats will be outlined. Showing you a process that will significantly speed up the workflow for creating complex mathematics in digital formats, even if your team is already using MathType. Eliminating the potential for human error when creating complex formulae and equations in a digital format. With the added bonus that each and every formula can be read aloud correctly if students benefit from access to this function.
Audience: This webinar will have a post-secondary education focus and will outline EquatIO’s use for complex mathematics/STEM courses.
The webinar is free to attend, it will be live captioned and recorded. The captioned video will then be made available on the Australian Disability Clearinghouse on Education and Training (ADCET) website.
Fiona Thomas is a Teaching and Learning Specialist at Texthelp. Fiona is a new member of the AsiaPAC Texthelp team, formerly an Assistant Principal and Assistive Technology Advisor for the Department of Education in New South Wales. She holds a Master’s Degree in Special Education and has worked across primary and secondary settings in NSW and Victoria for more than 30 years. Over that time, Fiona has been an avid user of technology to support the teaching and learning needs of the diverse range of students in her classrooms. Extending that role further by guiding and supporting other educators embarking on their own technology adventures
