ACSES Visiting Scholars Announced

The Australian Centre for Student Equity and Success (ACSES) is pleased to announce the six Visiting Scholars who will be undertaking residencies at ACSES under the Visiting Scholars Program.

The Program aims to seed and support collaborative research projects between ACSES and higher education equity researchers as well as contribute to the strategic goals of ACSES’s Research and Policy Program.

The 2024 Visiting Scholars are:

  • Professor Sarah Jane Aiston from Teesside University (England) – Doctoral education, intersectionality and equality, diversity and inclusion in the higher education sector.
  • Dr Sam Hoang from Victoria University (Australia) – Exploring Post-Doctoral Employment Patterns for Equity Domestic Doctoral Graduates in Australia.
  • Dr Laurence Lasselle from the University of St Andrews Business School (Scotland) – Clarifying the meaning of disadvantage for policy responses for enhancing opportunity and inclusion in higher education.
  • Dr Jason Lodge from The University of Queensland (Australia) – Equity implications of generative AI in Australian higher education.
  • Geoffrey Mitchell from the Queensland Department of Education (Australia) – Widening Participation Impacts: improving data collection and collaboration on pre-access evaluation.
  • Associate Professor Nadine Zacharias from Swinburne University of Technology (Australia) – Demonstrating best practice in student equity research.

Visiting Scholars will be hosted by ACSES in Perth for durations of up to 60 days and have access to university resources to facilitate their research aims. The Visiting Scholars will collaborate on research projects with ACSES staff and engage with the broader research community.

ACSES Research and Policy Program Director Professor Ian Li said it was encouraging to see the high calibre of applications that ACSES received for the Program.

“We are looking forward to hosting each of our Visiting Scholars throughout 2024 and collaborating with them on an array of projects, which will contribute meaningfully to improving the student outcomes progressing higher education equity in Australia and internationally.”
