The Australian Tertiary Education Network on Disability (ATEND) have partnered with the Australian Disability Clearinghouse on Education and Training (ADCET) to deliver the 2020 Pathways15 Online Conference. The Pathways Online Committee recognise the important contribution of industry, government and communities in creating an inclusive society for people with disability. Pathways15 Online: Advancing Inclusion in 2020 and Beyond is a free event open to disability practitioners, academics, researchers, NDCOs, students with disability and those with an interest in addressing barriers for people with disability participating in tertiary education, training and subsequent employment.

An inclusive society is one in which every individual has the opportunity to fulfil their potential as equal citizens. It is based on fundamental principles of dignity, equity, equality, social justice, and respect for all human rights. The biennial Pathways Conference brings together disability practitioners, NDCOs and a range of other professional, academic and teaching staff, researchers and students with disability to identify and address barriers for people with disability participating in tertiary education and training. Pathways also plays a pivotal role in the provision of essential professional development and makes an enduring contribution to an informed sector-wide approach to inclusivity.

This year’s conference will be a Pathways like no other. COVID-19 has deeply impacted our global community. For the first time in its almost 30 year history, we cannot physically come together to attend a Pathways Conference, but we can still come together remotely, through the power of technology, for a virtual event. Pathways15 will explore current and emerging issues, drawing on the learnings we can take from them and our existing experience to continuously improve our knowledge and our practice.

Themes Include:

  • Challenges, innovations and good practice during COVID-19
  • Mental health and wellbeing
  • Universal design For learning
  • Employment following tertiary education
  • Inclusive policy and practice: implementation and outcomes
  • Other innovative practices
