Macquarie University Widening Participation Symposium Event Details 3 November 2017 2:00 am Towards an Inclusive University Macquarie University’s Widening Participation Unit (WPU) will host an inaugural symposium, titled Towards an Inclusive University, to showcase the initiatives that have contributed to improvements in the access, participation, retention and success of students underrepresented in higher education. Through the symposium, WPU will feature the University’s acclaimed and innovative LEAP (Learning, Education, Aspiration, and Participation) programs and partner programs funded by Commonwealth Higher Education Participation and Partnerships Program (HEPPP). Macquarie’s evidence-based initiatives are aimed at broader student inclusion at the University through participatory and collaborative processes, with students as co-creators of their learning. The event will also include opportunities for networking as well as a communities of interest session for in-depth round table discussions on widening participation topics. The success and ongoing growth of the Widening Participation programs not only reflects the University’s responsiveness to deliver evidence based programs, but also resonates the University’s commitment to realise the strategic priority of “a culture of transformative learning in a research-enriched environment” and offering “experiences, within formal settings and beyond, that change the lives of our students [and] support them in achieving their aspirations …” (Our University: A Framing of Futures), which ultimately contributes to the diversity of our broader society.
