The Australian Centre for Student Equity and Success acknowledges Indigenous peoples across Australia as the Traditional Owners of the lands on which the nation’s campuses are situated. With a history spanning more than 60,000 years as the original educators, Indigenous peoples hold a unique place in our nation. We recognise the importance of their knowledge and culture, and reflect the principles of participation, equity, and cultural respect in our work. We pay our respects to Elders past, present, and future, and consider it an honour to learn from our Indigenous colleagues, partners, and friends.

What is assessment for inclusion? Problematising inclusion, equity, and access in higher education assessment.

This year’s annual Centre for Research in Assessment and Digital Learning (CRADLE) symposium brings together researchers in the fields of higher education assessment, inclusion and social justice, to share ideas, research and practice, and problematise the concept of inclusive assessment.

The symposium aims to take stock of what has already been done (both practical and conceptual), identify areas of synergy for collaboration, and develop a research agenda which serves to improve the equity of assessment in higher education.

The CRADLE Symposium is proud to deliver the following line up of guest speakers:

  • Dr Jan McArthur, Senior Lecturer, Educational Research, Lancaster University – ‘Denouncing Binaries and Compromises: why philosophical perspectives are central to assessment and feedback research, scholarship and practices’ .
  • Prof Penny Jane Burke, Director, Centre of Excellence for Equity in Higher Education and Global Innovation Chair of Equity, The University of Newcastle – ‘Inclusive Assessment: Recognising Difference through Communities of Praxis’.
  • Leading researchers will talk about the big questions and ideas in inclusive assessment that have come from the symposium, in a panel session and open Q&A.
