ADCET Webinar: Meeting the needs of our Indigenous students with disability

If you have questions about how your institution can better support the access needs and engagement of Indigenous students with disability, this webinar is for you.
Sharon Kerr with over 30 years of experience as an educator and support worker has set about trying to find Black answers for her White questions. Under the leadership of her Phd supervisor A/Professor John Gilroy and her Indigenous advisory group, Sharon has undertaken research focusing on:
- Why it is that Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students with disability are not presenting for support?
- What are the barriers both real and perceived for students who need support?
- How can we mitigate the impact of these barriers?
During this webinar, Sharon will share findings of this research and provide the opportunity for input and discussion (technology and time permitting).

Sharon Kerr has had an eclectic career that has included teaching and senior management roles in the university sector, international consultancy for the higher education and training sector, and classroom teaching K -12 in the school sector. She is currently Leader Education and Training with the Centre for Disability Studies. With over 30 years experience working with students with a wide range of disabilities and expertise in maximising student engagement for students with intellectual, sensory, learning, psychological and physical disabilities she presents a wholistic approach to supporting students with a disability.
With a Master of Indigenous Education, and working towards a Phd with the University of Sydney focusing on the needs of Indigenous students with disability. Further to her research, Sharon continues to publish and present on topics pertaining to emerging technologies in teaching and learning. Her most recent publication co-authored with Dr Stefan Popenici, Exploring the impact of artificial intelligence on teaching and learning in higher education, explores some of the ethical considerations behind the algorithms of new emerging technologies.
