The Australian Centre for Student Equity and Success acknowledges Indigenous peoples across Australia as the Traditional Owners of the lands on which the nation’s campuses are situated. With a history spanning more than 60,000 years as the original educators, Indigenous peoples hold a unique place in our nation. We recognise the importance of their knowledge and culture, and reflect the principles of participation, equity, and cultural respect in our work. We pay our respects to Elders past, present, and future, and consider it an honour to learn from our Indigenous colleagues, partners, and friends.

Event information

The Australian Disability Clearinghouse on Education and Training (ADCET) invites university and TAFE students with disability to participate in a student forum supported by the NCSEHE — Thriving through COVID.

This national online student forum will explore what has enabled students with disability to thrive in their studies through the COVID-19 period.

Students who thrived during this time stayed engaged and motivated, kept up to date with learning and assessment requirements, contacted staff or other students when required, and generally had an optimistic and positive outlook. This doesn’t mean that you were able to thrive all the time but, for some time at least, you felt you were thriving. This forum will focus only on those thriving moments.

We are very keen to hear from students with disability about your experiences, and we are seeking participants to take part in a two-hour online student forum, which will be conducted on Zoom on Wednesday 9 December from 1.30 pm to 3.30 pm AEDT.

Participants will be allocated to small breakout rooms of four students where you will share examples of when you felt you were doing well in your studies despite the disruptions and sudden changes caused by COVID-19. You will also be involved in generating ideas that may assist other students to thrive during disruptive and uncertain times in the future.

Please see the Participant Information Sheet for more information about the study aims and objectives. To participate, you will need a reliable internet connection, audio and mic suitable for using Zoom.

As a ‘thank you’ and an acknowledgement of participants’ time in being involved in the online forum, students will receive a $100 gift voucher.

Please register your interest in participating here. Registrations close Monday 7 December at 8 pm AEDT.

If you have any questions about the study or forum please contact Project Officer Debbie Hindle by email Debbie.hindle@utas.edu.au or phone 0457 542 165.
