The Australian Centre for Student Equity and Success acknowledges Indigenous peoples across Australia as the Traditional Owners of the lands on which the nation’s campuses are situated. With a history spanning more than 60,000 years as the original educators, Indigenous peoples hold a unique place in our nation. We recognise the importance of their knowledge and culture, and reflect the principles of participation, equity, and cultural respect in our work. We pay our respects to Elders past, present, and future, and consider it an honour to learn from our Indigenous colleagues, partners, and friends.

2017 Equity Fellow Louise Pollard’s Fellowship Symposium was held at UWA last month, in conjunction with her final Advisory Group meeting. Over 110 people attended the Symposium that featured Professor Sally Kift, Professor Steven Larkin, Dr Paul Corcoran, Tim Shanahan, Sue Trinidad and Tyson McEwan, and was Chaired by Professor Grady Venville.

‘The Clever Country: The importance of investing in regional and remote students’ was a great success, with speakers’ presentations followed by active group discussion. Some highlights of the symposium included a warm and thought-provoking Welcome to Country delivered by Professor Len Collard, and an inspiring speech from UWA Guild Welfare Officer and student Tyson McEwan.

The event was live-Tweeted with many of our valued colleagues joining the conversation:
